Programs at The SPLASH Centre

The SPLASH Centre offers drop-in programming on a daily basis, special programming and events throughout the year. Contact The SPLASH Centre for more information on any of the programs we offer.

Core Daily Programming:

Sports and Rcreation:

Both structured and unstructured involving leagues, pick-up games, tournaments and individual training programs. These programs strengthen participation, fitness and social skills, while giving members the opportunity to improve their self-confidence.

Leisure Program:

Games room, including pool tables, table tennis, video/board games, puzzles,  etc. This program is informal, unstructured and fosters social skills and gives staff much needed one-on-one interaction time with members.

Supper Program:

One of the most important programs offered at The SPLASH Centre. : Supper is available everyday at the centre, free of charge. Members do their own cooking, eating and cleaning in groups, under staff supervision. Members learn about proper food etiquette, manners and nutrition. This program is funded by the United Way.

Computer Program:

The SPLASH Centre has six computers for members to use and share. Systems are monitored by staff and they are used for school work, personal interest, etc. As well, this area now offers a variety of games, such as Rock Band and Shuffleboard.

TV Room:
Counselling:

Members can just hang out and watch TV or a movie.  This area provides a safe, relaxed environment for youth to share and communicate with each other and staff. Our Social Worker usually implements monthly Splash and Chat sessions here, often attended by Guest Speakers.

Our Social Worker spends approximately 2-3 hours per week at the centre and is extremely valuable to the youth and staff of the centre. Much of her time is spent hanging out with our members or seeing them privately depending on their needs.  She implements regular Educational/Life Skills Session with our youth both formally and informally. Some of the topics that have been discussed include Healthy Relationships, Bullying, Healthy Sexuality, Drugs and Alcohol, etc.

Special Programming:

VolunTeens:

A 15 week program that focuses on Recreation, Education, Wellness, Career Exploration and Community.  Sessions are held virtually or at the SPLASH Centre, focusing on skills such as Resume Writing, Mental Health First Aid, Self-Care, Baking, Fundraising, etc.  Participants must complete a mandatory 30 volunteer hours in order to complete the Career Development 2201 course and the VolunTeens Program can help make completing this requirement easier and stress free.

Sprouts
After School Program

Focusing on education and recreation, the Sprouts program offers homework assistance and tutoring, along with physical activity and creative arts based programming in a safe, secure environment. The program is 2 hours in duration and is offered after school five days a week.

SPLASH Summer Day
Camp:

For a number of years now, the SPLASH Centre has offered a Summer Day Camp Program for children aged 4-11 years. The camps have weekly themes, where activities are sports and fun based, educational, and promote the heritage of our local communities. Summer students also gain valuable and life changing work experience. Amongst parents, the general public, and the children, the SPLASH Centre has achieved great success for offering quality and responsible programming.
